Ho Ho Freaking Ho

Presented by The Last Tuesday Society and premiering at The 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival, Sweet Child of Mine is a cross-generational theatre work, featuring performer Bron Batten and her 60 year-old parents live onstage.

Providing frank opinions on theatre, Bron's own performance history and things in general, their insights are poignant, earnest and at the same time, painfully hilarious. Asking themselves and and the audience: what exactly is the POINT of art?

A mixture of theatre, stand-up, performance art and awkward family function, Sweet Child of Mine will resonate with anyone who has trouble communicating with their family about who they are - or what they do for a living.

Come and hear some Dad jokes - direct from the source.

Sweet Child of Mine is the second piece in Bron Batten's Guns 'n Roses Trilogy and features original sound design from emerging composer Edward Gould (Next Wave, Attic Erratic, Choir Straits). Presented at Studio 246, Brunswick's newest underground arts venue.

A collaboration 27 years in the making- FOUR NIGHTS ONLY.

'Hysterically funny...' ArtsHub

'Strange and delightful... Let you imagination run wild' Adelaide Advertiser

'Infectious energy... The audience could not get enough' Beat Magazine

The Last Tuesday Society proudly presents 'Pimp My Play', our premiere event for 2011.

Step 1: Take a boring old play.
Step 2: Divide up the scenes amongst the collaborating artists
Step 3: Put all the pieces back together in order
Step 4: Present theatrical equivalent of Frankenstein to horrified/delighted audience

Will a story get told? We don't know
Will the audience achieve catharsis? Probably not
Will Alison Croggon review it? No
Will it be an absolute shambles? er...
Will it be on the cover of Realtime? Only if we call it 'live art'.

The inaugural 'Pimp My Play' text will hereby be 'Blackrock' by Nick Enright.

That's right, you've seen the movie* you studied it in year eleven, it's more australian than a natural disaster.

Presented by such theatrical ingenues as:

  • The List Operators
  • The Sisters Grimm

  • Slow Clap

  • Poet Laureate Telia Nevile

  • Bron 'Batto' Batten

  • Tom Doig and Laura Jean McKay

  • Lachlan Tetlow-Stuart and friends

  • Zoey Dawson and Anna McCarthy

Hosted/narrated by Richard 'Higgo' Higgins

All tickets $10 bucks, tuesday the 22nd of march at 8pm sharp.

Presented at Studio 246 (rear of 246a Sydney Rd, Brunswick. Entry via Merri Street)

Come and witness the birth of theatre. Or the death of it. Either way, it's going to to be something.

And not too long, we promise.

*The movie had Heath Ledger in it.

Look! in the past few months last tuesday has done TINA, Edinburgh festival, next wave and comedy festival and they've all been friggin MASSIVE.

HOWEVER being the misanthropic hipster performance artists we are does this meteoric rise to fame make us happy?
Are we digging the huge crowds and critical adulation?
Are we satisfied and comfortable?

The answer is of course a resounding: NO. In fact we are the opposite: We are ruddy sick of festivals bossing us about! The bleedin curators with their grant applications, 25 hour meetings and karen walker sunnies on a chain; the festival clubs with their over priced booze and multitude of net working opportunities, the old growth forests worth of fliers and posters peeling from the city streets!

Hissy fit or press release? hard to tell at this point:

SO we at the Society have decided to take it right back to the old school: a badly publicised, hastily organised old fashioned last tuesday in the OLD BAR no less. Where we started out.Where the first last tuesday was nearly 3 years ago. It really only fits about 60 so it's going to be a squeeze. But we love it.

The theme is TRUE LIES.
Because when you ask for the truth get ready for an action movie starring Arnie.

All yer old faves and a spattering of new ones:

  • The famous Suitcase Royale,
  • Bron BLOODY Batten
  • The god damn List Operators,
  • Kunst ist Scheisse's very own Eva Johansen
  • The infernal Slow Clap (2010 Melbourne Fringe best comedy and Brisbane power house award)
  • The impoverished DIY circus of Skye Gellman
  • The garrulous gendarme of poetry, our laureate Telia Nevile

and a bunch of other cunts. and a CRAFFLE!

$8/$10 7.30pm OLD BAR Johnston Street Fitzroy 26th October

this gig will be like MTV unplugged was for kurt. before he blew he brains out.

The one after this will be a proper big one - our now famous Xmas special in November at the Spanish Club no less.

Hello Last Tuesday aficionados!

We hope you survived the winter and are on your way out of hibernation- because the 2010 Melbourne Fringe Festival is nearly upon us!

Bron and Rich will both be busy interstate so unfortunately there will be no Last Tuesdays at The Festival Club- very sad we know!

Big Shoes to Fill: An Expose of a 50ft Woman

Anna the Pocket Rocket is exploding onto the stage in her first one woman show. Expect cool stuff. On at The Fringe Hub Meeting Room, North Melbourne Town Hall at 10.30pm from the 24th of September to the 9th of October, 9.30 on Sundays. Don’t be disappointed.

We Are Doing Well

Forty Forty Home present their first full length work at The Fringe Hub Meeting Room from the 2nd to the 9th of October at 6.45pm (Sundays at 5.45). Expect Helvetica and awesomeness.

The Hermitude of Angus, Ecstatic

Co-created by Stephanie Brotchie and Vachel Spirason, this is Vachel’s first solo outing since the award winning sketch masters Vigilantelope. On at The Fringe Hub Meeting Room at 8pm from the 24th of September til the 9th of October, Sundays at 7pm. V. exciting.

Also our friends from Sydney will be presenting a performance night called Cab Sav at the Fringe Club on Tuesday the 5th of October. Check it out.

So that’s all from us for the minute. If you’re up at TINA come along on Friday the 1st of October for a dose of the Last Tuesday and keep yourself peeled for our return in October.

Love from Bron and Rich

Hello esteemed and attractive members of The Last Tuesday Society,

Rich and I thought we'd send you all a little update about our future intentions and assure you that we still exist- just in case you are missing your monthly dose of performance medicine!

First of all we have to thank all those who attended or performed at our Next Wave season at Witches in Britches Theatre Restaurant.
Best. Venue. Ever. We had cracking shows and were thrilled with the turnout and the content.

And performers don't worry, you will all get paid soon!

As some of you may or may not know, we are both headed overseas on various exciting adventures and for anybody attending the Edinburgh Festival, there will be a special festival edition of The Last Tuesday presented at The Bongo Club on the 10th of august.

Excitement Plus!

Keep your eyes peeled for Last Tuesday regulars Poet Laureate Telia Nevile and Miles O'Neil from The Suitcase Royale presenting new solo shows in The Melbourne Fringe Festival and for those of you who can't wait, you can attend the return of 'Kunst ist Scheisse' at 8pm on the 30th of june at 24 Moons in ACDC lane featuring lots of rad people.

We will be back bigger and better and more obnoxious than ever in October! Repeat OCTOBER!

We can hardly fucking wait.

See youse then,

Love Bron and Rich x

This Next Wave Festival sees cult performance phenomenon The Last Tuesday Society take over the legendary Witches in Britches Theatre Restaurant for two nights only!

COME TO BOTH COS IT's TWO DIFFERENT RUDDY SHOWS OK!

Comfort Zones features the curdled cream of Australia’s theatre/performance/art scenes, with artists making brand new stuff to perform amongst the fake cobwebs and haunted zombies.

But here's the rub: the artists must relinquish all creative safety and perform outside of their comfort zone, as far from their specialty as possible.

  • Ever wanted to see an opera singer hula-hoop?
  • Ever wanted to hear a dancer talk?
  • Visual artists performing theatre mash ups?
  • A stand-up comic play the saxophone?

Well, now’s your chance!

Hosted by Richard Higgins (The List Operators) Comfort Zones culminates in a rockin all-night after-party in the Dungeon Disco by Dick Versace on the tape decks (Vachel Vigiglantelope)

(It’s got a bed of nails... on the ceiling.)

Cheap beer, smoke machines and a paper mache dragon.

Hell yes.
