Hello esteemed and attractive members of The Last Tuesday Society,

Rich and I thought we'd send you all a little update about our future intentions and assure you that we still exist- just in case you are missing your monthly dose of performance medicine!

First of all we have to thank all those who attended or performed at our Next Wave season at Witches in Britches Theatre Restaurant.
Best. Venue. Ever. We had cracking shows and were thrilled with the turnout and the content.

And performers don't worry, you will all get paid soon!

As some of you may or may not know, we are both headed overseas on various exciting adventures and for anybody attending the Edinburgh Festival, there will be a special festival edition of The Last Tuesday presented at The Bongo Club on the 10th of august.

Excitement Plus!

Keep your eyes peeled for Last Tuesday regulars Poet Laureate Telia Nevile and Miles O'Neil from The Suitcase Royale presenting new solo shows in The Melbourne Fringe Festival and for those of you who can't wait, you can attend the return of 'Kunst ist Scheisse' at 8pm on the 30th of june at 24 Moons in ACDC lane featuring lots of rad people.

We will be back bigger and better and more obnoxious than ever in October! Repeat OCTOBER!

We can hardly fucking wait.

See youse then,

Love Bron and Rich x

This Next Wave Festival sees cult performance phenomenon The Last Tuesday Society take over the legendary Witches in Britches Theatre Restaurant for two nights only!

COME TO BOTH COS IT's TWO DIFFERENT RUDDY SHOWS OK!

Comfort Zones features the curdled cream of Australia’s theatre/performance/art scenes, with artists making brand new stuff to perform amongst the fake cobwebs and haunted zombies.

But here's the rub: the artists must relinquish all creative safety and perform outside of their comfort zone, as far from their specialty as possible.

  • Ever wanted to see an opera singer hula-hoop?
  • Ever wanted to hear a dancer talk?
  • Visual artists performing theatre mash ups?
  • A stand-up comic play the saxophone?

Well, now’s your chance!

Hosted by Richard Higgins (The List Operators) Comfort Zones culminates in a rockin all-night after-party in the Dungeon Disco by Dick Versace on the tape decks (Vachel Vigiglantelope)

(It’s got a bed of nails... on the ceiling.)

Cheap beer, smoke machines and a paper mache dragon.

Hell yes.

ARTISTS:
The Suitcase Royale, The List Operators, The Black Lung, The Safari Team, The Sisters Grimm, Poet Laureate Telia Nevile, Forty Forty Home, Elbow Room, Claudia O’Doherty, Simonce Page Jones, Matt Kelly and Michael Parry, Bron and Teresa Batten, Eva Johansen, Ed Gould. Amy Spiers, Karina Smith

Curated by Bron Batten and Richard Higgins.

We’ve come to the end. But never fear! There will be more Last Tuesday awesomeness in 2010!

Starting with The Last Tuesday Society Australia Day Spectacular on the 26th of January!

Hosted at the 25A warehouse in Northcote it will be an afternoon of sausage sizzles, cold tinnies and live music, followed by an evening of performances by the top notch, tip top, crème de la crème of the underground Melbourne arts scene.

More details to follow!

Keep your eyes out for us in March and April as we take over the Hi Fi Bar on Tuesdays during the comedy festival, presenting all of the weird and wonderful artists of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

And then again in May as we present our Next Wave Festival show ‘Comfort Zone’ at the theatre restaurant ‘Witches in Britches!’

Comfort Zone will feature artists such as The List Operators, The Suitcase Royale, The Safari Team, Claudia O’Doherty, Thomas Henning and The Black Lung Whaling Firm, Telia Nevile, Bron Batten, Richard Higgins, Ed Gould, Max Milne, Simonce Page Jones, Forty Forty Home and Karina Smith.

All of our artists will be stepping out of their comfort zones and performing in the opposite of their usual disciplines. Musicians doing stand up! Visual artists doing theatre! Dancers talking! It’s going to be madness!

After rocking the Melbourne Fringe Festival The Last Tuesday Society moves onto our next theatrical experiment: The Plagiarism Edition.

As Picasso said: 'talent borrows, genius steals'. With this in mind The Last Tuesday Society ring leaders, Bron and Richard, are goading their menagerie of performers into stealing other peoples' ideas, bits of schtick and material and pass it off as their own. It's low down and dirty but oh lordy, it's gonna be fun!

We live in a post modern era ladies and gentlemen, so come and watch as each act pays homage, appropriates, references or blatantly rips someone off (Just don’t invite any copyright lawyers).

Including the following thieves thus far:

  • The Suitcase Royale
  • The List Operators
  • Elbow Room
  • The Caravan of Love
  • Narelle Tolstoy (AKA Thomas Henning from the Black Lung)
  • Poet Laureate Telia Nevile
  • Anna Pocket Rocket
  • Bron Batten
  • Vic Healy
  • Amy Brossain

Others to be confirmed.

Hosted by that moustached marvel, Richard 'Dick Dastardly' Higgins

$8/$10. October 27 - 8pm sharp - Yah Yah's.

Craffle.

Get involved

Hello boys and girls!

After a brief hiatus The Last Tuesday Society is back with a vengeance!

September is the time when the independent artists of Melbourne descend into a caffeine fuelled, anxiety dream ridden frenzy and we’d like to invite you along for the ride

There are plenty of rad shows in the festival to check out but we’d like to offer our personal endorsement to those presented by Last Tuesday alumni, all occurring in two convenient locations- The Lithuanian Club and The Meat Market in North Melbourne.

There will also be all the Last Tuesday madness you’ve come to know and love on Tuesdays when we present The Last Tuesday Society at the Fringe Hub at The North Melbourne Town Hall. Featuring artists from the festival as well as extra special guests, Wednesday mornings are going to be hell. Get involved!

As well as the theatre morsels on offer, Last Tuesday favourites The Suitcase Royale are launching their debut self titled album on the 10th of September at the East Brunswick Club. Come bust a move with the best
party bands in Melbourne, with support from The Puda Madre Brothers and Johnny and the Johnny Johnnies. Only $10! You’d be totally lame to miss it!

The time is finally here…

Join us for a Last Tuesday Society special event:

The Jagged Little Pill Edition.

Hosted by famed cultural commentator and academic Albert Anis. Mo(rris) Et (te)

Each act will interpret one track off Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill in true Last Tuesday style.

it's seminal rich hasn't heard it)- it’s going to be totally rad.
